Backup more often
Hot on the heels of the internet is going to be switched off tomorrow; what five things will you print out? meme, my laptop was stolen last week. Why is this related to the internet being shut off? Well it isn’t, at least not directly. But print outs are kind of like backups, and if I knew my laptop was going to be stolen, I would have backed up my home folder more recently than two months ago.
The lesson: backup more often, even if you think backing up is overrated, it will never happen to you or [insert your excuse here]. You just never know.
I’m working from a spare vanilla laptop from work, but since I don’t - and probably won’t - have internet at home, and I can’t install anything on this laptop, my connected life has quickly slowed to a crawl.
