Apple’s Scary Season

As a new iMac owner, I get a little worried when I read news like this:

Market share is down, Microsoft is upset, and Quark is nowhere to be seen.

  1. I’ve been a Mac user for 6 (maybe 7) years now and that stuff doesn’t really phase me. Market share is always down, Microsoft is always upset, and who cares about Quark?

The reality is Apple is profitable. Also, Microsoft needs Apple to be around so they can point to them and and say to the Feds that they have comeptetition. They also profit from the platform with zero threat that Apple will take any market share from them.

As for quark, seriously, who cares? This is a non-issue for a few reasons. New Macs right now run at 1.25 ghz, and is WAY more than enough for the current version of quark. So, they can buy a machine now, run OS9 for a good long time (maybe another year or more) and by then an OSX native quark will be out, and everything returns to normal.

I know MANY Mac users, and only one of them uses quark with any regularity. Don’t be worried about Apple, but get used to bad press.

  2. The article is not exactly well written or researched. Quark is on its way, MS and Apple are getting along just fine but have no formal tie, and Giga is only counting OS X and not including previous versions. The Biz 2.0 author has had problems getting things right in the past and has been blasted for it.

You made a great choice that should give you more pleasure and help you get work done be getting out of the way, unlike some other OS’s.
